Smitten for Koala Mittens
For the second time this week, I found myself crying at my desk and for the second time this week, it was because of stories on the internet about injured animals. Due to fires in Australia, veterinarians have found Koalas with severely burnt paws. Koalas move very slowly and their babies move even slower.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare has requested that the public make "koala mittens" to assist in healing their wounds after the burn cream has been applied.
Let me preface this post by saying that I don't sew. I do not own a sewing machine nor would I know how to use one if I had one. So, if I can do this, anyone can. It took me significantly longer than it would someone with more sewing knowledge, but I'm very proud of how they came out and knowing that they will be helping a poor sweet little koala made all the needle pricks worth while. The pattern provided by IFAW can be found here. The only stipulation is that they MUST be 100% clean cotton. I just finished my koala mittens and I'll be sending them off to Australia in the morning!
