Ugly Co-Reindeer Christmas Sweater

Ugly Co-Reindeer Christmas Sweater

I'm writing this post from bed with a cup of hot chocolate on the nightstand and my little dog asleep at my feet. I'm happy, content, and exhausted. This weekend we attended two birthday parties and two Christmas parties. We spent the whole weekend surrounded by people we love getting into the Holiday spirit and loved every minute of it.

Last year and the year before, we went thrift store shopping for ugly Christmas sweaters, but they weren't as popular and the ones we got were kinda lame. They did the job and they were certainly ugly, but they didn't have that.... special ugly OOMPH factor, ya know?

This year, I decided to make our ugly sweaters based on a photo I'd seen floating around Pinterest. I made our reindeer out of a large piece of brown felt and a small piece of sand colored felt. I cut out each piece individually and then glued them together. The only piece i used a "stencil" was the torso... & the stencil was the lid to my crockpot. You can see what each piece should look like below.

Materials

  • Foam antlers headband (similar: here)
  • 1/2 yard of brown felt (you won't need the whole thing, but if you're like me, you'll mess up a few times and need the extra)
  • a small sheet of light brown or "sandstone" felt
  • a single large googly eye
  • small round ornament (a red one if you wanna sport Rudolph)
  • decorations (similar: here)
  • two sweaters ( I found a pack of 2 Hanes pullovers here for $16)

Pieces

  1. Torso
  2. Head & Torso
  3. Neck
  4. Back legs
  5. Front legs
  6. Ears & Hooves

After I glued him together, I placed him on the sweaters and then cut him in half. I then decorated the sweaters with these darling candy cane and peppermint candy foam stickers that I found at Michael's. The antlers, were actually a kids accessory, that I cut the band off of. I attached everything using hot glue and he survived two parties without anything falling off.

One thing I can say is that while the crockpot lid certainly worked, it did make him a little...chubby. That wasn't a big concern though, because we thought he was a cute chubby reindeer!
