14 Days of Valentines (2015)
If you followed my old blog, you probably remember that J & I have a 14 Days of Love tradition. Every year, before Valentine’s Day, we gift each other will little surprises and crafts daily up until Valentine’s Day. Last year was a bit exhausting, so this year, we chose to alternate days: I have odd days, he has evens. Also, learning from last year, I decided not to do a separate blog post for each day- that was also exhausting. Instead, I’ll be updating this one daily.
The first day of Valentines:
Today, I gifted my love with a paper bag filled with goodies! The bag said “A brown paper package tied up with string, filled with a few of your favorite things!” In it was a wooden phone case, a fish eye lens for his iPhone, his favorite gum, his favorite soda, and his favorite candy.
The second day of Valentines:
I am one spoiled girl! Today, I came home from work to find that J had bought a bag and matching wallet that I’ve had my eye on for the past few weeks. I’M OBSESSED. He also threw in a delicious marble bundt cake from Nothing Bundy cakes J
The third day of Valentines:
Today, I made cupid’s arrows that littered the counter and pointed to some homemade chocolate chip “Stud Muffins". I made sure to make enough for him to take to work & share with his coworkers.
The fourth day of Valentines:
Today, J took the day off and went to a Sacramento Kings game with his friends. I was a little down in the dumps all day about being stuck at work while getting Snapchats from him of Joe’s Crab Shack and overpriced basketball game beers, but I felt much better once he came home and gifted me with LUSH cosmetics! I LOVE LUSH, and he got me a yummy lip scrub and a massage bar. I love LUSH so much because they are big on the fight against animal testing, and anyone who knows me, knows how much I love animals.
The fifth day of Valentines:
Last night, I made J play a game of hangman telling him that the solution was a hint as to what his surprise would be. The answer was “You Float My Boat”. I then brought out a “Root Beer Float kit, complete with pretty straws, elephant kissing cups, and a pint of ice cream. We made root beer floats in our jammies and watched Empire. It was perfection J
The seventh day of Valentines:
This morning I had every intention of tip toeing out of bed, sneaking into the kitchen, and after brewing myself the world’s strongest cup of coffee, I would whip up a tasty and delicious breakfast. Then I would quietly sneak back into the bedroom and wake J up with the aroma of hard morning’s work and kisses. That didn’t happen, because when I finally arose from my slumber, J was already awake and hard at work on some business cards for one of our clients. Bless his heart. So instead, I banished him from the kitchen and got to work. I made these adorable Pink Sprinkled Cinnamon Roll (recipe found here) and then called him into the dining room where we enjoyed breakfast with the rain pitter-pattering on the window and the cat attempting to sneak licks of frosting.
on the eighth day of Valentines:
I came home to a homemade board game! My love created “Loveopoly” -i twist on Monopoly, but all the properties were stores and cities and restaurants that we love. I was so utterly impressed that he spent all day creating this and put so much love and memories into it. We played (he kicked my butt), drank wine, ate Chipotle, & watched Empire. Now, that’s my kinda night.
on the tenth day of Valentines:
OMG. This was so amazing to come home to. Ahi tuna is my favorite food in the world, but in my area, it’s really hard (& expensive) to find quality ahi. A friend of J’s works at this amazing restaurant in Truckee that makes an “ahi tower”. I’ve been dying to check it out, but with my work schedule and the weather lately, it hasn’t been possible…so they brought it to me. I was so touched that J & his friends went out of their way to make my day, but being able to enjoy this deliciousness all packed up to-go was the best part of my Tuesday.
on the eleventh day of Valentines:
As always, one day is dedicated from the animals. This year, Penelope & Leonardo got their daddy a giant card (bigger than them!) with a poem on the inside. Leo’s said “thank you for walkies, and chicky birds, and rubs. Thanks for my kitty and snuggles andhugs. Love, Leo.” Penelope’s just said “Thanks for food. Love, Penelope”. …that’s pretty much Nelly’s personality in a nutshell.
on the fourteenth day of Valentines:
For Valentine's day, we attended Tournant's Menagie Trois fondue pop-up dinner. There were three courses of fondue + 3 different cocktails that were served while we watched "When Harry Met Sally". It was so fun and we left completely stuffed.
