Ninja Turtle Pancakes

Ninja Turtle Pancakes

I’ve said in other posts that food coloring is the secret ingredient to culinary genius when cooking for a 6 year old. This post acts as a catalyst for that theory.

Ev loves Ninja Turtles. The 5 fish we had for 2 days were all named after Ninja Turtles and their accomplices. I, myself, can’t tell them apart and their human-like shape and daunting abs freak me out a little.

I made these for him over the summer, and every morning for the remaining days of the visit, he asked for them (I finally relented, and made them again the morning before his flight home).

They are so simple: just mix some green food coloring into the pancake batter, make pancakes as normal & then decorate! I used red cookie frosting to make his face mask (I’m told that means that this one is Raphael) and edible pearls for his eyes. They make sugar eyes that are available at most craft stores, and I think the next time I decide to make these for Ev and his dad, I’ll pick up some of those. Most 6 years olds are hard sells on food anyway, so I think putting just a little bit more effort into making meals fun can make all the difference.
