Powder Room Makeover

Powder Room Makeover

We've been having so much fun decorating our new house and every time we finish a project, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment. This room has been on our list from the first time we set foot in the house. I have wanted black and white stripes since we lived in our apartment and this room seemed like the perfect spot for them. The bathroom is super tiny, so we learned very quickly that we couldn't both work in there at the same time without being on top of each other.

There was nothing inherently wrong with the powder room before, it was just very white and very builder grade and was begging for some....vavoom. Sooo, we delivered! Initially we tried to use a black and white striped removable wallpaper, but because the walls are so heavily textured, it ended up looking messy and bumpy. So we ripped it all down, repainted the wall the same color white just to refresh it and got to taping off the stripes.

My sweet husband spent two hours meticulously measuring and taping to assure that each stripe was perfectly spaced and exactly 10 inches. The math made ZERO sense to me and it frustrated me so much- I can always count on him to take over when I get overwhelmed and he delivered. I just love that man <3

Once it was all taped off, my husby took a break, and I painted the black. However, once we removed the tape, I realized that the texture had worked against me once again and the black paint had bled into the white stripes like crazy. I wanted to cry and I thought we would have to repaint and start over. But the following day, while I did laundry, J took a tiny paint brush, and evened out all the stripes by hand. It must have been painstaking and monotonous, but 3 hours later, it was absolutely perfect.

Then, it was time to find the perfect mirror. I managed to find this one on eBay and spent THREE DAYS obsessively watching the auction and managed to win it. It was delivered while we were in Seattle and when my friend, Trevor, who was watching our house and animals, let me know that it had been delivered, it took every thing in me not to hop on the first flight back home. haha.

Our journey home was a long and tiring one, with delayed flights and we were exhausted by the time we got home, but J was so wonderful and hung it for me first thing when we woke up the next day. I can not get over how perfect it looks and how much I love it.

This makeover was much harder than we originally thought, but even though it was just a simple addition of paint and the mirror, it made a HUGE impact and I love it so much. I have plans to add a few more details and I'll update you all as soon as we do!
